Hoboken’s finest single male Irish athletes will step onto the auction block this evening highlighting the Fourth Annual Hoboken Guards Hurling Club Annual Pub Crawl & Hurler Auction.
This is hurling.
Our team invites and encourages the Hoboken community to join us TODAY at Finnegan’s (734 Willow Ave, 3:30-5 pm), Mulligans (159 1st Street, 5:30-7 pm) and The Shannon (106 1st Street 7:15-9) in a celebration of Irish culture. Award-winning Irish fiddler Amy Beshara and acclaimed guitarist Max Carmichael will keep the crowd moving to lively traditional Irish sessions at each location.
The “Win a Date With a Hurler” auction starts at 7:30 pm and allows local ladies the chance to bid on 13 Hoboken Guards hurlers – mirroring the number of players on the hurling “pitch” (or field) for one team at a time – each carrying a gift certificate to a Hoboken or New York restaurant or business. Bidding starts at $20.00 per gift certificate and hurler.
It is the choice of the winning bidder whether or not the bidder wishes to use the gift certificate for themselves or bring the sporting lad along for the date. This is the sole fundraiser for the Hoboken Guards and allows to team to pay its league insurance, registration fees, team equipment, travel and other related club expenses for the 2014 year.
The annual pub crawl each spring serves as a pre-season kick off for New Jersey’s lone hurling club. The Guards compete in the NYGAA junior hurling division season, which runs May through late August.
Stop down to two of the pubs, introduce yourself to our panel of hurlers and let us introduce you to the world’s fastest field sport!
