Guards Recruiting New Players

by David Cosgrove on March 16, 2011

Think you’re a good enough athlete to wear this jersey?

Prove it.

The Hoboken Guards are presently recruiting players of all experience levels to be a part of our historic hurling team. Whether you have competed for other club teams before or have yet to participate in a single hurling practice, our arms are open to the brave and driven. You will be properly coached.

The worlds oldest, fastest and most skilled field sport is growing coast-to-coast across the United States. Be a part it.

Practices are presently slated for Sundays between 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. in Jersey City’s Liberty State Park. Weekday runs on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8 p.m. near the Hoboken Little League baseball field are 20 minute runs. In April, we will incorporate a second, mid-week practice to our schedule. Come by our Sunday practice to check out the sport, no commitment necessary. A full event calendar, complete with practice and game dates and times, will appear on this web site in the coming days. Keep checking hobokenhurling.com for updates.

Though the HGHC does maintain some gear (helmets, hurleys, sliotars, club jerseys), team members are expected to purchase their own hurley and sliotar. They normally cost approx. $30 US and $8 US, respectively. An annual club membership fee of $100.00 is required for each team member and covers all insurance and related league/practice venue fees, as well as some equipment fees.

Players not on the HGHC roster as of April 20, 2011, will NOT be eligible to compete in the New York Gaelic Athletic Association’s Junior Hurling League, which starts April 24, 2011.
